CHAPTER TWELVE

I wake up the next morning to soft, wet strokes of a velvet tongue against my cheek. Half-asleep and not quite realizing what’s going on, I open my eyes and see Rocky’s happy face hovering above me. I smile and run my fingers through his brown locks. “Good morning, cutie,” I sleepily say.

After carefully moving Rocky from on top of me, I grab my phone from the nightstand to check the time, groaning when I realize it’s already 8:00 AM. It’s no surprise that Ethan is already out of bed. As adorable as he is, I leave Rocky’s side and pad to the bathroom. Once I figure out how to operate the ridiculously complicated shower, I let the water pour down my face as bits and pieces from the night before flood my mind. Memories of blindfolding Ethan with his tie bring a smile to my face as I run the washcloth over my body. I’ve never been one to take charge in the bedroom and I have to admit that it was quite exciting.

I dry off after my shower and search for my dress from the night before. As I walk back to the bedroom, Ethan walks in from the hall. I kiss him good morning before getting dressed. He watches me with a devilish grin, and to my surprise, I fully enjoy it.

“Spend the day with me, love?”

“What did you have in mind?”

“I’d like to take you to my cabin upstate.”

“Okay, we’ll have to stop at my place first.”

“Good, you’ll love it. Now come have breakfast before we leave.”

While I enjoy a stack of warm, fluffy pancakes, Ethan runs around like a mad man, packing. All I hear are bags being zipped and unzipped as he pads back and forth. I bring my dishes to the sink and see little Rocky staring up at me. I get him a treat and wait for Ethan to finish.

“Is Rocky coming with us?”

He extends his hand toward the pile of luggage. “Of course, I already packed his bag.”

I can’t help but smile at this man for packing an entire bag for his dog. I don’t think there’s anything cuter than Ethan and Rocky. Ethan grabs a set of car keys and asks if I’m ready. We scoop up Rocky and the bags before heading for the elevator. Walking through the parking garage, we stop in front of his black Cadillac Escalade. I’m reminded of the time he drove me home after the movies and how badly I wanted to have dinner with him. It’s funny how things have changed since then. I once was too much of a rule follower to have dinner with him, and here I am going away with him to his cabin. We load the back with his bags and I notice a little car seat in the back for Rocky. Just when I thought they couldn’t get any more adorable. I kiss his furry head before buckling him in.

The SUV rolls to a stop in front of my house and I run inside to pack a bag.
